Rough edit peer review:

Rough edit on youtube:

Questions:

  1. What do you think worked well?
  2. What do you think could be improved?
  3. Did you understand the main plot of the music video?
  4. Is there anything you think should be taken out of the music video?

We will be doing these question reviews in my study breaks and lunch breaks on 09/04/2021.

T. Bianca Review of work:

Tips:
- need more shots changing more often

- could you ramp up the cutting between the flashbacks and stage singing towards the end half? Quicker cuts, more changing shots?

- Needs after-effects that will continue the style of the video and add to the dynamic

1.58mins - lip-sync with wrong words - do you have any other footage?

Overall, looking good, I like the blur transitions, maybe play around with a few similar ones in after effects?

My response:

  • I am working on adding more shots that I can change at a more frequent rate.
  • After-effects wise I am working on a VHS sort of look making it look as though it is showing an older look on all the shots of her and her mum when she is younger.
  • for the off lip-syncing, it was hard to find parts of lip-syncing that worked with the exact song, as our talent did not fully know the song so she did mumble some lyrics.

Deborah response:

  1. "The acting and the lighting complimented the mood of the song well"
  2. "The lipsyncing and time between the cuts"
  3. "Yes I did"
  4. "Nothing it was 10/10"

Levi:
  1. "The continuity flows very well and the lighting complements the mood as well, also I liked the ways in which you used the flashbacks in good appropriate places."
  2. "In some parts of the video the lip-syncing did not completely match, also it would be nice to see more cuts between the singing and possibly see more angles of the stage singing."
  3. "Yes, the plot was reasonably simple and was set up in a good way."
  4. I don't think so. Maybe you could take away or shorten the last clip to give room for a cool title at "the end that fades in and out."
Kayla:
  1. "The continuity is good and the overall feel with the flashbacks scattered through the video gives it a bit of a lighter feel to the whole video."
  2. "lip-syncing slightly off in some places but it wasn't too bad, and probably just add a few clips extra to break up the singing on stage cause it is a little long."
  3. "Yes because I am doing the same music video, haha but actually it does make sense even though I have seen it before."
  4. "Nothing really to take away, just some things you could add."

Carol:
  1. "The lighting makes it look nice and the acting looks pretty good."
  2. "Maybe make some of the singing on the stage a bit shorter cause sometimes you are watching it for a while."
  3. "Yes, it was pretty simple even for me."
  4. "No, it's good."

I was unable to get a video of Deborah and her responses so I just wrote it down as she spoke about it.

My responses to their responses:

Deborah: It is actually really hard to find a video of phoebe doing a good lip-sync as she didn't know the words properly but I will probably look through the footage again and see if there is one that she is not mumbling in it.

Levi: I would actually like to challenge the whole quick movement of cuts between the singing and since it is a reasonably slow and sad song I would like to keep most of even the editing techniques at a slower pace. And that idea of making the last clip shorter and adding a cool title sounds cool and I think I will add it for my final edit.

Kayla: Same as I said to Deborah and Levi.

Carol: Same as I responded to the others.

Things I will also be adding for my final edit:

I will be adding a few after effects, such as I am going to add a VHS type of look on all the clips of the kid and mum scenes to make it look as though the technology has become better since those videos were made, it also adds a sought of nostalgic look as I will be adding tints of yellow to it. I will also most likely be adding that title idea Levi came up with because that would be another way to add a cool way to add an aftereffect.

  1. Hi Hunter

Overall Score for rough edit and peer review responses: 14/20

You have all the necessary elements here, just not presented to the standard that could get you those higher marks. remember that presentation as well as details (explaining your points in an articulate way), all contribute to higher marks.

As my suggestion in class was given, I think with not filming your feedback, at least having photos and profiles for people who were interviewed, would have been better than just listing a first name. The point of this exercise is to be getting feedback from your target audience. Knowing who you are interviewing in the first place is essential for context for the answers.

Another question to do with the genre would have also been helpful. Asking what your target audience thinks is expected when watching a music video of your chosen genre.
Also, please include a non-YouTube link of your rough edit as youTube is blocking your video due to copyright infringement.
You have some great ideas for what to add in and tweak to take this music video to the next level. I'm looking forward to seeing it come together!
