CCR Questions:

 1. How do your products represent social groups or issues?

- I believe that my product does get across social groups and issues, as you can see in the music video that the young girl as she is young she is all happy and following her mum's good guidance and as she gets older she obviously strays from these ideals and realizes how she is wrong and is all messed up and regrets this, this is shown through the flashbacks of  Armone and the mum which have happy themes, etc... and then the viewer is shown a much less happy girl as she has grown up and this is also often what we see nowadays with people growing up, they are taught everything not to do and how to act, etc... but yet they still end up in a mess as they grow up because they choose to stray from those beliefs

- We also used the implementation of a white girl as our main character/ singer because she would usually be portrayed as a perfect child/ girl and this being contrasted is actually sometimes the case in life, just because someone is a certain race they shouldn't be labeled a certain way.

-The main plotline of our narrative music video is to target a younger age group who constantly face these challenges, and loads of youth within the twenty-first century are troubled with and face depression and anxiety constantly, thus by focusing on a subject that they tend to live with and feel could be a great way to get their attention, as they'll be able to relate to the video or apprehend somebody WHO is also going through an equivalent and common issue.

- Also we kept the theme of growing up in it, as this is something everyone goes thru and will be able to relate to.

3. How do your products engage with the audience

-The video contains both stage performances as well as storyline shots. The memories of the little girl and the mum almost act as flashbacks within the mind of our main character like we can see what she sees and have that prior knowledge for why she is now in so much pain. This can help to connect with our audience on a deeper level as if they are going through what she is going through.

-Because we have chosen to target a younger audience we have made our music video available on different platforms such as Youtube and Vimeo, which a lot of young people in this generation know how to use, making it easier for them to access and engage with for example, like, share or leave a comment.

- I have also used a cool VHS tape kind of after-effect onto the shots of when she is younger with the mum as it makes those shots look older and a little more realistic also because it is something a bit different and not often used in something like a music video so it could also interest them, also most kids or people in the age bracket we are trying to target will most likely not know what this is and it will give a cool feel to it so they will again be intrigued.

4. How did your research inform your products and the way they use or challenge conventions?

We chose to do a narrative-based music video, we included the main story that was not too hard to follow as explained in our focus group. This is a typically seen thing in a lot of current music videos as it gives the audience something to watch and take interest in. It is also in my opinion the easiest theme to cover when filming your own music video.

-Pop music videos often have a lot of close-ups and mid-shots when filming. Our footage consisted of a lot of close-ups because of the fact that we wanted to see a lot of our characters' emotions and we thought that is best portrayed if you are close to their face and can see the picture of how they feel. This only added to the music video as it became more clear of what type of music video this was and instead of focusing on the external we wanted to draw more attention to the internal.

Rough edit on youtube:

Questions:

  1. What do you think worked well?
  2. What do you think could be improved?
  3. Did you understand the main plot of the music video?
  4. Is there anything you think should be taken out of the music video?

We will be doing these question reviews in my study breaks and lunch breaks on 09/04/2021.

T. Bianca Review of work:

Tips:
- need more shots changing more often

- could you ramp up the cutting between the flashbacks and stage singing towards the end half? Quicker cuts, more changing shots?

- Needs after-effects that will continue the style of the video and add to the dynamic

1.58mins - lip-sync with wrong words - do you have any other footage?

Overall, looking good, I like the blur transitions, maybe play around with a few similar ones in after effects?

My response:

  • I am working on adding more shots that I can change at a more frequent rate.
  • After-effects wise I am working on a VHS sort of look making it look as though it is showing an older look on all the shots of her and her mum when she is younger.
  • for the off lip-syncing, it was hard to find parts of lip-syncing that worked with the exact song, as our talent did not fully know the song so she did mumble some lyrics.

Deborah response:

  1. "The acting and the lighting complimented the mood of the song well"
  2. "The lipsyncing and time between the cuts"
  3. "Yes I did"
  4. "Nothing it was 10/10"

Levi:
  1. "The continuity flows very well and the lighting complements the mood as well, also I liked the ways in which you used the flashbacks in good appropriate places."
  2. "In some parts of the video the lip-syncing did not completely match, also it would be nice to see more cuts between the singing and possibly see more angles of the stage singing."
  3. "Yes, the plot was reasonably simple and was set up in a good way."
  4. I don't think so. Maybe you could take away or shorten the last clip to give room for a cool title at "the end that fades in and out."
Kayla:
  1. "The continuity is good and the overall feel with the flashbacks scattered through the video gives it a bit of a lighter feel to the whole video."
  2. "lip-syncing slightly off in some places but it wasn't too bad, and probably just add a few clips extra to break up the singing on stage cause it is a little long."
  3. "Yes because I am doing the same music video, haha but actually it does make sense even though I have seen it before."
  4. "Nothing really to take away, just some things you could add."

Carol:
  1. "The lighting makes it look nice and the acting looks pretty good."
  2. "Maybe make some of the singing on the stage a bit shorter cause sometimes you are watching it for a while."
  3. "Yes, it was pretty simple even for me."
  4. "No, it's good."

I was unable to get a video of Deborah and her responses so I just wrote it down as she spoke about it.

My responses to their responses:

Deborah: It is actually really hard to find a video of phoebe doing a good lip-sync as she didn't know the words properly but I will probably look through the footage again and see if there is one that she is not mumbling in it.

Levi: I would actually like to challenge the whole quick movement of cuts between the singing and since it is a reasonably slow and sad song I would like to keep most of even the editing techniques at a slower pace. And that idea of making the last clip shorter and adding a cool title sounds cool and I think I will add it for my final edit.

Kayla: Same as I said to Deborah and Levi.

Carol: Same as I responded to the others.

Things I will also be adding for my final edit:

I will be adding a few after effects, such as I am going to add a VHS type of look on all the clips of the kid and mum scenes to make it look as though the technology has become better since those videos were made, it also adds a sought of nostalgic look as I will be adding tints of yellow to it. I will also most likely be adding that title idea Levi came up with because that would be another way to add a cool way to add an aftereffect.
